August 2: Lock 20 to Edenderry

Our descent in Lock 20 brought us onto a long stretch of bog land. This accounted for the 18 miles without a lock. Our goal today was Edenderry, a small town which lies just a mile or so north of the canal. It has a short spur line and a harbour, so we could go right up into town.

I took the pups for a morning walk, and then we made the boat ready. Dagny decided she might stay at the lock.

Dagny Waves Goodbye From the Lock

This was a beautiful stretch through bogland, which might sound contradictory. There were amazing colors, and we had lovely weather and the sky was beautiful. A good day to be outside.

I realized that I've only posted time-lapse videos so far, which make our travel seem really frenetic. Here is a short clip to a beautiful stretch of canal at our real pace. Yes, walkers often pass us.

When we approached Edenderry, there were several people on the bridge spanning the side canal which leads into town. They waved to us as we turned and passed under them. A short spin up the side branch, and we dodged a few boats tied up in the middle of the canal. Now we were right in the town of Edenderry.
